Dubai:

India may have been forced to settle for a draw in the second Test against Pakistan but the trio of Wasim Jaffer, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly can take heart from the fact that the Kolkata runfeast has pushed them up in the ICC Players Rankings.

Thanks to his double century in the first innings and a half-century in the second, Jaffer jumped 17 places to 23rd, his career-best rating.

Ganguly, who notched up his maiden Test ton at his home ground and missed a half-century in the second innings, also moved up four places to 24th, while Tendulkar climbed a rung to be 17th in the list.

Pakistan's Younis Khan has plenty of cause for celebration on Wednesday. Not only has he managed to keep the series against India alive by saving the second Test but also moved up one place to seventh in the table for Test batsmen.

Maiden centurion Misbah-ul-Haq moved up 22 places to 44th with his 161 not out in the first innings while wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal progressed five places to 29th spot after a fine 119.

Though Australia's Ricky Ponting still leads the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen, he is now under serious pressure from South Africa's Jacques Kallis and even more so from Kumar Sangakkara in third position who is in such fine form for Sri Lanka.

There is no Indian representation in the list of top 10 batsmen with Rahul Dravid hanging on to his 11th place. VVS Laxman improved his position by one place and is ranked 19th.

With the batsmen dominating the match in Kolkata many of the bowlers have slipped a little in the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers.

India captain Anil Kumble dropped one place to joint-sixth position while Zaheer Khan slipped a place to 12th spot.

Muttiah Muralitharan is still out in front of the bowling rankings and may even stretch his lead when the rankings are updated on Thursday following the conclusion of the Test between Sri Lanka and England in Kandy.
