Jaffer named Mumbai Ranji captain

Opener Wasim Jaffer was on Friday chosen to lead former champions Mumbai in the 2008-09 Ranji Trophy season, commencing next month.

Opener Wasim Jaffer was on Friday chosen to lead former champions Mumbai in the 2008-09 Ranji Trophy season, commencing next month.

The decision to appoint the Test cricketer as the new skipper was taken by the Mumbai senior selection panel led by Padmakar Shivalkar, a media release from the Mumbai Cricket Association said.

Mumbai have won the national championship for a record 37 times but failed to make the semi-finals last season.
