Sakaal drop Vengsarkar's column

Dilip Vengsarkar's column 'Cover Drive' was dropped from Tuesday's edition of the Marathi daily Sakaal.

Mumbai:

Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar's column 'Cover Drive' has been dropped by the Marathi daily Sakaal owned by BCCI chief Sharad Pawar's brother.

And just when it was being seen as a reaction to the leaked e-mail to the selectors forbidding them from writing newspaper columns, Sakaal has clarified that this was just a mis-communication and they will indeed continue to carry Vengsarkar's column as long as he sends it in.

The newspaper's Resident Editor in Pune Abhay Kulkarni told NDTV that the paper was following the BCCI directions and that's why they decided to drop the column.

But the group's Editorial Director has now clarified that there was some miscommunication and that although Tuesday's column has been dropped the newspaper will continue to carry the chief selector's columns in the future.

Their reasoning is that the relationship between the newspaper and its columnist is not governed by other factors, and the relationship will continue until both parties are happy.
