Irani Trophy: Good start by Mumbai

The battle for Irani Trophy started in Rajkot on Saturday. Ranji champions Mumbai gave some tough time to the Rest of India team straightaway on Day 1.

The battle for Irani Trophy started in Rajkot on Saturday. Ranji champions Mumbai gave some tough time to the Rest of India team straightaway on Day 1.

Electing to bat first, Mumbai piled up an impressive total of 385 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Both, opener Sahil Kukreja and middle order batsman Abhishek Nayar slammed centuries on the opening day of the five-day match.

Kukreja and Ajinkya Rahane put on 91 runs for the opening wicket stand.

Later in the day, Kukreja notched up a 171 run partnership with Nayar for the 5th wicket.

For the Rest of India team, Bengal pacer Ranadeb Bose claimed three wickets while Ishant Sharma and spinner Pragan Ojha took two wickets apiece.
