New Delhi:

Indian cricket's love affair with its former Colonial Masters began 75 years ago when despite being part of the British Empire they played their first Test match at the home of cricket - Lord's.

Since then some of Indian cricket's most famous moments have come at the home of Cricket. Be it a World Cup win at Lord's in 1983 and equally famous NatWest win over England almost two decades later.

But there have been other equally famous wins in England apart from 1983 and 2002. 1971, according to many was a renaissance year for Indian cricket. India had won a Test and a series overseas prior to that but victory in West Indies that year was followed by victory in England the first time ever.

Till 1986 it remained India's only Test series victory in England, ironic given that England was the venue for India's first Test match in 1932.

"I can think of two other major achievements. One is when you drew your series in Australia where Rahul Dravid played a superb innings and the other is Pakistan where after 20 years where you won a series in Pakistan. Otherwise all the great achievements that India has had in recent times have been in England. There's one more that comes to my mind and that was winning the World Championships in Australia," said Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Indeed over the last 75 years, England has been the venue for some of the greatest moments in Indian Cricket. None more so than at Headingley in 2002, where India's three most famous batsmen finally came of age. It was the beginning of what was to be another glorious period for Indian Cricket.
