New Delhi:

Nomination of Neil O'Brian for the ICC Associate Player of the Year honour may put the BCCI in an embarrassing position as the Irishman was linked to the rebel Indian Cricket League in the last season.

It is a well-known fact that the Indian Cricket Board has acquired a tough stance against those related to the ICL while also convincing the other national boards to follow the precedent.

The Board had even removed Abhinav Bali's name from its list of nominees when the fact that the cricketer was associated to ICL had dawned upon it at the last moment during the BCCI awards.

But the International Cricket Council (ICC) seems not to have discriminated against the players related to ICL while nominating them for the awards on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old O'Brian played four matches for Delhi Jets team of the ICL and then he went on to play one-dayers for Ireland against Bangladesh and Holland following which the ICC considered him for its top honour.

O'Brian, who has played 21 ODIs till date, scored 71 runs in the third ODI against Bangladesh while led Ireland to victory against Holland by posting an impressive 58 not out.
