I was nervous before the 6th six: Yuvraj

Dubai:

India's Yuvraj Singh had butterflies in his stomach before hitting the last of the six sixes against England's Stuart Broad in the ICC Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa last year.

"Obviously, after the fifth one, I had butterflies in my stomach and I was thinking that if I can hit this one it can be an amazing feeling," Yuvraj said after winning the newly instituted ICC Twenty20 Performance of the Year for the amazing feat at the ICC Awards 2008 ceremony on Wednesday.

"So, I just backed myself and it was a great feeling after hitting the sixth one," he added.

Speaking about the feat, Yuvraj said that he became confident of a record after hitting the fourth ball of the over for a six.

"The fourth was a difficult shot to hit over the rope and when I hit that, I was pretty confident that I would hit the next two," he said.

Yuvraj said it was more important to him to be nominated for the award rather than winning it.

"For me it was more important to be nominated than winning the award because we all have special performances in any tournament but then you can see Chris Gayle also had a very good performance," he said.

When asked about the conversation he was seen having with Broad at the awards venue, Yuvraj laughed: "I have been hit for five sixes, it's not a good feeling. So, if you can have a good day, you can have a bad day."

Asked whether this award has sent a strong message to selectors back in India, Yuvraj, who has not been in the best of forms this year, declined to comment.

"I don't want to comment on that. I am happy to receive this award today. Last year was a great year for me and this year I haven't done that well. So, I am always looking to be better at my game and hope to finish this year on a high," he said.
