Melbourne:

Kolkata Knight Riders could be in for trouble after explosive batsman David Hussey revealed he could follow Ricky Ponting's path and stay away from the second edition of the Indian Premier League.

Hussey, yet to play in Tests, is hoping to make the Australia side for the one-dayers against South Africa and Pakistan and is also keeping his fingers crossed for the Ashes series. That is the reason he is having second thoughts about playing in the IPL.

Ponting, another Knight Riders player, pulled out of this season's IPL citing hectic international commitments.

"I'm sort of hoping to be playing in the one-dayers against South Africa and against Pakistan. Maybe a two-week window in the IPL, I'm not really sure at the moment. I have to see how the body is holding up," he was quoted as saying in website 'Sportal'.

Hussey said he is desperately hoping to make the Ashes side and is looking forward to final three matches of the Sheffield Shield to stake his claim for a Test berth.

"I desperately want to be part of the Ashes squad, I'm hoping to finish off the Shield season in good form and get an Ashes berth that way like Cameron (White) is," he said.

Hussey said he is aware of Ponting's decision not to play in the IPL, given the hectic scheduling and the importance of the Ashes.

"He's had a massive 18 months and we've got another massive 18 months to come and big trophies to win, so I can understand his decision," he said.

Besides Ponting, fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and Michael Clarke too have pulled out of the IPL.
