Bangalore:

The weekend saw an unusual sporting event in Bangalore, as homemakers, some of whom had never played cricket before they began practising for this event, turned out on the cricket field.

No sledging, no bad blood - just everybody having a great time. The true spirit of cricket was alive and well on the cricket pitch as enthusiasm made up for lack of experience in the matches organised by the Spoorthi Mahila Samaj.

"Our grandmothers are all playing cricket - I feel very happy," said Prajwal, a participant.

The clubs hold a sporting event each year and this year the sport chosen was cricket and the participants were out to prove a point.

"The body can get old but the mind can never get old - that is the message that I want to give everybody. Because we are all 40 years younger now and we are on top of the world," said Bhagyalakshmi, Winning Captain, Spoorthi.

It is a positve spirit and sportsmanship - a reminder of the way the gentleman's game should be played.
