Hayden identifies Morkel as biggest threat

Melbourne:

Australia opening batsman Matthew Hayden feels lanky South Africa pacer Morne Morkel would be the biggest threat on the lively WACA pitch during the first Test, which will start from Wednesday.

"He (Morkel) is the danger player for us, most definitely," Hayden was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald' here on Tuesday.

The left-hand attacking batsman also feels that Morkel's hight has helped him to become a key weapon in the armour of the visitors.

"The modern game, the people who have been successful from a bowling point of view have all been well into their six-foot plus category, hitting the wicket hard.

"The modern-day greats, maybe with the exception of Brett Lee, they have all been big tall fast bowlers," 37-year-old Hayden said.

"The pace and trajectory of the ball is very significant the higher up you go because no one is overly concerned with velocity. Whilst it can be a weapon, trajectory into the wicket is the mastermind of the downfall of batsmen. So he's going to be hard work," he added.

Hayden also expressed his excitement about inclusion of Victoria's paceman Peter Siddle, who has been called into the 12-man Test squad, making his home debut at the WACA Ground. Siddle made his Test debut during Australia's tour of India in October.

"He's a unique character to the game and I think he's going to blossom into an absolute superstar for Australia," Hayden said.
