Getting wickets key to victory: Pollock

Centurion:

African XI skipper Shaun Pollock on Wednesday said getting quick wickets in the middle overs helped his team win the cliffhanger against the Asian XI. "It was such a close match, a pretty good match to win," he said. Pollock, who dented the Asian batting by taking three wickets in one over, said it was important for them to get quick wickets to keep up the pressure. "We needed quick wickets. It worked fine when I got three batsmen in one over," he noted.Successful planThe all-rounder admitted that he wanted Ashish Nehra to face Steyn in the penultimate over. "It worked accordingly. We wanted Nehra to keep the strike and did him with extra bit of pace by Steyn," the skipper said.Losing captain Inzamam-ul Haq blamed his batsmen for not getting to the modest target. "It was not a big score and bowlers bowled well. After 10 overs, three wickets were down and Kumble and Razzaq did their best to finish the job at hand," he said. Improved performanceInzamam said the batsmen will have to come up with a improved performance to level the series in Durban. "Batsmen will have to work hard and we will try our level best to square the series in the next game," Inzy said. Man of the Match Ashwell Prince, who scored 78 for the Africans in a difficult situation, said he and Boucher looked to build a partnership. (PTI)
