Melbourne:

Sourav Ganguly is set to play the 100th Test of his career at the MCG on Boxing Day.

The Bengal Tiger top scored for India in the rained out tour game versus Victoria with a 59 but that wasn't the reason why he addressed the press on Monday.

"It is a special honour belonging to the club of 100 Tests and 300 ODIs," he said.

The former skipper has had many special moments as a player and a captain against Australia, one of which was his 100 in the Brisbane test in 2003.

No wonder then that his long-time adversary Steve Waugh has turned full circle and was full of praise for him in his newspaper column.

"Who says that Steve Waugh does not like me ? Whatever happened in the past was in an effort to win matches. I've said before that he's one of my role models. He led a tough side, and made them compete hard. He lifted Australian cricket and what it is today is partly because of him," said Ganguly.

Indian cricket is also what it is right now thanks in some part to Ganguly's captaincy. Now he may be just a player but the desire to stop the world champions from breaking their own record of 16 tests in a row is just as strong. Australia are currently on 14 test wins.

"Most of these players have been around for 12 to 13 years and have fantastic records. So they'll expect bounce and pace. We have to learn to adapt. It's not the first time that they'll be facing someone bowling at 90 mph. We just played Shoaib, who's probably the fastest bowler in the world. It will help us in this series. Lee's doing well, he's bowled well. But I think we'll do well against him," he added.

Ganguly was very emphatic about not answering any questions on former Indian coach Greg Chappell who was responsible for his exit from the national team for nearly a year.

With less than two days to go for the Melbourne test, he would rather look at capitalising on the incredible form he has shown this year.
