London:
While the aggression of the team was appreciated, the captain's decision not to go for the kill in the third Test has drawn criticism from all possible quarters including the media.
The victorious general Rahul Dravid became only the third Indian captain, after Ajit Wadekar and Kapil Dev to lead his team to a series win on English soil.
And while Dravid gets the credit for this one, aggression in Indian cricket is often credited to another captain.
"I have a lot of time for Sourav. I know he has received a lot of criticism in the past. You look at the way India played in this game. I think, in the past, a lot of opponents have believed that they can bully India around an intimidate them in some ways and Sourav was the first Indian captain who said that I am not going to tolerate that any more and started standing up to the opposition," said former England cricketer Angus Fraser.
Zaheer Khan is a glowing example of the Sourav brand of aggression. After being discarded by the Indian selectors, Zaheer forced his way back into the national side with an impressive showing in county cricket.
He has not looked back since. His 18 wickets against England was the best by an Indian bowler.
"I think Zaheer Khan's bowling has been magnificent, also the fact to see someone coming round the wicket and over the wicket, like he has done. I think he has been the difference between the two sides and quite rightly won the man of the series award," said Fraser.
The Man of the series is currently nursing a sore heel and though he has been named in the one-dayers against England, he's been rested for the Twenty20 World Cup.
