Former India player joins ICL

New Delhi:

After seven Hyderabad players chose to give up their Ranji association for the ICL, it was only to be expected that the list would grow. Sridharan Sriram has become the first former India player to sign on with the new league.

Sriram started off playing for Tamil Nadu. He went on to play six ODIs and failed to make an impact, averaging just 13.50 with one half-century. He had recently moved to Maharashtra and was playing for them as a professional.

It looks like the BCCI will have to take the exodus to the ICL more seriously. Adding to the list are Hyderabad fast bowler Alfred Absolem and TamilNadu's V Devendran who is seen as a 20-20 specialist.

Uttar Pradesh players Shalabh Srivastava, Ali Murtaza and Avinash Yadav have also apparently signed on the dotted line. Several other UP players are also believed to have signed up and they are expected to report in Mumbai.

Also on the ICL radar are two stars from Ranji champions Mumbai, including captain Amol Mazumdar and left arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni, both of whom have hinted at being unavailable for selection for a tour to Pakistan, although their official reason is commitments in the English county.

The ICl will hold its first major Press conference on the August 23 in Mumbai where more details of this huge exodus from India's domestic circuit are expected.
