Jaipur:

Police have initiated an inquiry into an alleged forgery case against Indian Premier League commissioner for BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi and two others in the Nagaur city in Rajasthan.

According to Nagaur Police station Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Prasad Sharma, one Rupa Raj Jat has filed a complaint against Rajasthan Cricket Association President Modi, Nagaur Cricket Association Secretary Rajender Singh Natu and the-then sub-registrar.

The complainant has claimed that Modi had purchased a piece of land in September 2004, when he was eyeing the post of President of Rajasthan Cricket Association. Under RCA rules, Modi could have got the post only if he was either a domicile in the state or owned immovable property there. As he fulfilled neither of these qualifications, Modi allegedly bought a piece of land in Nagaur. But the FIR claims Modi's signature and thumb impression on the land registration were forged, as he was not present in the city when the registry was done.

Modi had purchased the land with the help of Natu and prepared fake documents for the purpose.

Sharma said police have registered a case under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120 B and have initiated an enquiry into the allegations.

Former BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta had also claimed on Tuesday that Modi misused RCA funds.
