Wellington, New Zealand:

England allrounder Dimitri Mascarenhas will play for Otago province in New Zealand's upcoming domestic Twenty20 and limited overs cricket competitions

"I'm delighted to be a part of the Otago setup and am really looking forward to playing some good cricket for them next season," Mascarenhas said in a statement released by Otago on Tuesday.

"Playing cricket in New Zealand has always been something I've wanted to do as I love the country and Otago seemed an obvious destination with such a talented playing list who will be looking for success," he said.

Mascarenhas, born in England to Sri Lankan parents, was raised in Australia before returning to Britain to take up a county contract with Hampshire in 1996. He has become a regular member of England's Twenty20 and limited overs squads.

"Dimitri is a dynamic cricketer with the ability to win a match on his own," Otago Cricket chief executive Ross Dykes said.

A right-handed batsman and a medium-quick bowler, Mascarenhas holds the record for most runs for England in a single one-day international over after hitting five sixes to bring up 30 against India off Yuvraj Singh last September at The Oval.
