England signalled their intentions for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia with a crushing 100-run victory in a 20 over per team contest at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Australia, who have held the Ashes - cricket's oldest and most prestigious trophy - since 1989, were dismissed for 79 all out in response to the home team's 179 for 7. The first of five Ashes test match begins in mid-July. Kevin Pietersen scored 34 from just 18 deliveries. Australia suffered their biggest ever collapse in the limited overs format, losing five wickets for a single run.Topics mentioned in this article
