This one is banged hard into the pitch and around off, Dan Lawrence steps across and looks to flick it away, but does not fully commit his shot. He closes his bat face early as well and also takes his eyes off the ball. Ends up getting a leading edge and the ball goes straight up in the air, Pathum Nissanka at gully moves forward and takes a simple catch. Lawrence looked vulnerable in dealing with the deliveries outside off and was constantly trying to drag those to the leg side. He perishes on 5 (21). England are 45/1.  45/1

65.1 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN AGAIN! This time, it's the English skipper, Ollie Pope who tried to take the aggressive route but holes out. Sri Lanka, right back in the game now. Vishwa Fernando bangs it short and on the line of the middle and leg stump. Pope moves on the back foot and gets underneath it. Swings hard into the leg side, flat in the air and straight to the man at deep backward square. Dimuth Karunaratne makes no mistake and takes a brilliant catch at deep square leg. Ollie Pope just cannot believe what he has done and England now slip from a comfy 290/4 to 307/8. A huge round of applause for Pope though as he departs on a well-crafted 154 off 156 deliveries.  307/8

38.3 OUT! TAKEN! This is a massive wicket for Sri Lanka! Lahiru Kumara gets the big fish and the bowling change works for Lanka. He bangs this one short and on middle and leg, Joe Root goes for the pull, but this one gets a bit big on him. It goes off the top edge towards fine leg, Vishwa Fernando there struggles to settle under it, but judges it well, in the end, to take a fantastic catch moving backwards. Root knew the moment he hit that and started to walk back. A rare failure for him as he departs on 13, and England lose their third now! Lahiru Kumara, though expensive gets his second wicket and breaks the 51-run stand between Root and Pope.  191/3

52.4 OUT! BRILLIANTLY TAKEN! Milan Rathnayake gets another important breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Harry Brook looked a bit uncomfortable in this session, and the pressure has got to him. This one is fuller in length and just outside off, tempter, Harry Brook cannot stop himself from going after it, but he fails to get his drive down along the ground and ends up airing it flat and hard, Kamindu Mendis at short covers flies to his right and takes a fantastic catch. Brook departs for 19 and Milan Rathnayake breaks the 70-run stand between Pope and Brook.  261/4

60 OUT! TAKEN! Vishwa Fernando gets his first wicket and slowly the Lankans are getting back on track! Vishwa Fernando comes from over the wicket and pitches it up, once again, on leg. Jamie Smith prods and flicks it a bit uppishly towards the short mid-wicket fielder. Kusal Mendis reacts quickly and grabs just above his left shoulder. Jamie Smith has to depart pretty quickly for 16 off 31 deliveries. England has lost half of its side on 290. This is the moment for Sri Lanka to capitalise now.  290/5

Chris Woakes charges down the track and looks to perform an inside out lofted shot, but fails to get the elevation and hits it flat and aerially straight to short covers. Milan Rathnayake barely moves from his spot and gets the catch right in front of his face. Bringing on spin works for Sri Lanka and England are six down now.  299/6

64.5 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Sri Lankan skipper, DDS strikes now and England have now lost three quick wickets with the tail exposed. Dhananjaya de Silva loops it up, providing a few more revolutions on it, drops it full and on the leg stump line from around the stumps, Gus Atkinson gets lured in the flight and skips down the track to heave it over the deep mid-wicket region. He is a bit early in the shot and swings through, but gets no real timing on it. The bat twists in his hands and the ball travels off the splice of the bat behind mid-wicket. Milan Rathnayake runs forward a few yards from deep mid-wicket, settles underneath it and takes it comfortably. Gus Atkinson, the centurion from the second Test couldn't bat through for long this time around.  307/7

68.2 OUT! TAKEN! England 9 down now and things have moved pretty rapidly after Brook's dismissal. Asitha Fernando too, gets a scalp to his name. He bangs it hard into the surface on the middle and leg channel, it skids and comes a bit quick off the surface. Josh Hull stands upright and reacts a bit late on the bounce. He goes through the pull shot but does not complete the bat flow and lobs it straight to Dhananjaya de Silva at square leg. A simple catch for DDS and Sri Lanka is just a solitary wicket away from wrapping things up.  318/9

69.1 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! A momentous collapse for England and Sri Lanka have managed to sneak back in the contest after a dismal outing on the first day. Milan Rathnayake bowls it on the back of a length, around off, it springs off the deck a bit and comes high on the batter. Shoaib Bashir clears his front leg and tries to play a wild heave across the line, but as the ball gets heavier on him, he ends up slicing it off the high end of the bat. The ball airs in the overcast skies, and swirls over the cover region. Lahiru Kumara there stationed at the covers takes the simplest of the catches. 15.3 OUT! TAKEN! What a special moment for Josh Hull. First Test wicket for him and he is all pumped up! Josh Hull pitches this one up, on a very fuller length, outside off, and invites Pathum Nissanka to attempt the drive again. Nissanka gets a bit greedy and tries to cash on the width offered. But, the ball is too full to perform the drive. Nissanka though, goes through his shot. His bat twists in his hand and the ball travels off from the high end of the willow, and as a result, it goes flat in the air, just above the grass towards short cover. Chris Woakes stationed at the mentioned position throws himself to the direction of the ball, dives low to his right and takes a fabulous catch, inches above the grass. Pathum Nissanka the only Sri Lankan batter who looked confident walks back now on a quick 64. Sri Lanka are in a huge trouble as they slip to 91/4.  91/4

6.2 OUT! RUN OUT! The Lankan batters were doing good between the wickets but this was a terrible, terrible miscommunication! Chris Woakes bowls a hard-length delivery on off. Pathum Nissanka gets on his toes and punches it towards the right of the short cover fielder and calls for a run. For a split second, Dimuth Karunaratne hesitates to take the chance but that costs him his wicket. He eventually rushes to get to the batting end but is quite late. Olly Stone moves swiftly and charges towards the ball and scores a flat direct hit at the stumps on the batter's end. Dimuth Karunaratne is fairly outside the crease and fails to complete his run. He departs on 9 (16) and Sri Lanka are 34/1.  34/1

This one lands on a good length in that channel outside off, nips away slightly, Mendis gets drawn forward trying to push at it, but gets a thick outside edge towards the second slip where Harry Brook takes a sharp catch. 50.1 OUT! TAKEN AT FIRST SLIP! An absolute seed from Woakes to dismiss the well-settled Kamindu Mendis! Chris Woakes stays over the stumps and pitches it fractionally on the good length, around off, and also gets a considerable movement. The ball curves away from the southpaw as Kamindu Mendis opens up his body and hangs his bat away from him. Gets a thick outside edge that carries straight towards Joe Root, one of the safest fielders at slips. Root gobbles it up nicely. Sri Lanka have now lost both of their well-settled batters in the first hour of Day 3. Olly Stone follows up the short balls with a tempting good-length delivery outside off, it again springs off a bit and gets heavy on the batter to negotiate. Milan Rathnayake opts for a back foot square cut but swings under it getting a thick outside edge. Jamie Smith does the rest by taking a regulation catch behind the wickets. 51.4 OUT! LBW! Josh Hull gets his third wicket! However, Vishwa Fernando has decided to challenge the on-field decision and goes upstairs to review it. Looks pretty straight and plumb though. Josh Hull bowls it on the good length and lets the ball curve into the batter, starts from the middle and off channel, and moves into the leg stump line, Vishwa Fernando pats his front foot and looks to defend it but plays over the line of the ball as he doesn't expect the ball to tail in that much, and gets rapped straight on the pad. 61.2 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Shoaib Bashir does the job of picking the final wicket, and his first. But hang on, this is reviewed straightaway by Asitha as he thinks it came off his forearm and not the glove or the bat. Shoaib Bashir pushes it through again, lands full and outside off, with a hint of a turn into the batter. Asitha Fernando premeditates the reverse sweep but misses. The ball lobs off Fernando's shoulder Jamie Smith is quick to react, moves forward and takes a good sharp catch. However, UltraEdge comes up and it confirms that the ball did brush faintly on Asitha's gloves, which means it is out and Sri Lanka are all out on 263.  263/10

3 OUT! TAKEN! Asitha Fernando draws first blood! A soft dismissal but Sri Lanka won't mind one bit. This one is full and swings into middle and leg, Ben Duckett stays deep in his crease and tries to loft it away across the line, but fails to get underneath the ball and his bat twists in his hand as well. As a result, he ends up lobbing it straight towards mid on where Vishwa Fernando takes a dolly. A shake of the head from Duckett, and England loses their first. Still leads by 82!  20/1

11.1 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Lahiru Kumara strikes again. He gets his second wicket and gives a sendoff to Lawrence who falls for his own aggression! Lahiru Kumara continues from 'over the stumps and lands it on that in-between length, aiming the stumps, Dan Lawrence throws himself for a big shot into the stands over the off side. Gets his dancing shoes on, swings hard but loses his shape in the process and ends up outside edging it straight to Dinesh Chandimal behind the wickets. Chandimal makes no mistake and England lose their third wicket on 56. Sri Lanka fighting back hard here. Dan Lawrence departs on a run-a-ball 35.  56/3

7.4 OUT! DRAGGED ON! The change in bowling has worked for Sri Lanka and England lose their skipper right on the stroke of Lunch. Ollie Pope walks back to the dressing room in distraught and is absolutely livid with himself! Lahiru Kumara steams in from over the stumps and hurls it on the back of a length, just outside off, and it nips back into the batter after pitching. Ollie Pope hops on the back foot and attempts to run it down to the short third region, an area where he was so productive in the first innings. But it is too close to play that shot and Pope ends up inside edging it into the sticks. Lahiru Kumara sprints in celebration and that will be LUNCH on DAY 3.  35/2

14.3 OUT! LBW! Joe Root is gone! Massive moment in this Test! Absolute corker of a delivery from Vishwa Fernando and the bowling change works again for Sri Lanka. Dhananjaya de Silva is absolutely spot on with his decisions here. Fernando steams in from over the wicket and nails the yorker with precision, on middle, swinging in very late, Joe Root gets surprised by it and looks to clip it away, but his head falls and he gets hit on the front pad on the full. A huge shout for LBW, and up goes the finger. Root reviews it but he does not look that confident. UltraEdge confirms no bat is involved and Ball Tracking shows that the ball is pitching the line of the stumps and crashing into the middle and leg stumps on the projection. This is another sharp in-swinger, full and and on middle from over the wicket, once again swings in late, Harry Brook gets stuck in his crease and looks to flick it away, but misses it completely and gets rapped on the pads. Fernando already starts running away as an appeal goes up, and the finger goes up as well. Brook takes a review, but the only thing that can save him here is if he has hit that. Lahiru Kumara stays over the stumps and lands on that in-between length, just outside the off stump line, slightly nipping away off the deck and getting that excessive bounce as well. Olly Stone stands upright and goes for a back foot slash through the covers with a horizontal bat angle but the ball gets a bit heavy on him and nicks the outside edge and goes behind the wickets.
