London:

Defending England and Wales Cricket Board's handling of the recent captain-coach dispute, National Selector Geoff Miller said the ECB reacted as per the demands of situation.

"The last 48 hours has been very interesting and it hasn't been ideal for English cricket," Miller said.

"(ECB Managing Director) Hugh Morris has put an awful lot of work in during the past few days behind the scenes. It has been a non-stop procedure but the ECB have not created the problems in the dressing room and they have had to react accordingly," he was quoted as saying by the 'Yorkshire Post'.

The ECB drew flak for the way they handled the row that led England captain Kevin Pietersen and coach Peter Moores to leave their posts.

Pietersen was reportedly unhappy with the way Moores was running the team and issued an 'either-me-or-him' ultimatum to the Board.

The ECB responded by sacking Moores and asking Pietersen to resign after reports of a dressing room split. "Certain things have happened and we will now have the chance to move on. Andrew Strauss has had his say and we will do our planning and go on from here," Miller added.

"I didn't realise there were deep-rooted problems in the dressing room. I always look to create harmony in the dressing room," he added.

Miller, who appointed Pietersen as captain, backed him to bounce back.

"He's a strong-willed person and a quality player. When we appointed Kevin we thought it was the right way forward and he will be an important part of the future for England," he said.
