New Delhi:

A day which was supposed to be a fabulous Friday, the day India was playing Pakistan after more than a year at the 20-20 World Cup, but its turned out to be anything but fabulous.

The day began with the BCCI sending out a press release saying Rahul Dravid had requested to be relieved of his duties as captain with immediate effect starting with the Australia one day series beginning next month.

The news of Rahul Dravid stepping down as captain sent shock waves across the country, Selectors said they couldn't believe the news, and were caught unawares.

Fans across the country are still hoping Dravid will rethink his decision.

Dravid claimed he wanted to focus on his batting, and would fully support whoever took over the reigns.

And while news of Dravid's decision to step down spread like wild fire, BCCI President Sharad Pawar revealed that Dravid had been thinking about this for a while now.

With Dravid having led India to a historic Test series win in England, the board is still reluctant to let him go.

"These things keep happening in cricket, players like to enjoy their cricket. This is Rahul's decision, though everyone will try to convince him but ultimately this matter is in the purview of the Selection Committee," said Niranjan Shah, Secretary, BCCI.

The Board has promised to name a new Captain of India on the 18th of this month, when they announce the ODI team for the Australia series.

Rahul Dravid himself was incommunicado and his father was unhappy about the media hounding his son.

Several theories are doing the rounds, but for BCCI, the decision comes as bolt. Two weeks ahead, they're looking for a new coach and now also, a captain.
