Dravid XI beat Sehwag XI in benefit game

Bangalore: Despite making 302, Sehwag XI could not beat Dravid XI in the David Johnson benefit game in Bangalore on Sunday. Virender Sehwag's 78-ball 96 was bettered by Venugopal Rao who was the man of the match for his 91. David Johnson, for whom the benefit match was played, was given a cheque of Rs 12 lakhs at the end of the match. Bad start Sehwag's team got off to a bad start as they lost three wickets within the first eleven overs. Ashish Nehra picked up two of them. But Sehwag made up for his off colour performance in Saturday's practice game. The captain survived two dropped catches to hit a 78 ball 96. Y Venugopala Rao shared a sixth wicket partnership of 94 runs from 99 deliveries with Dheeraj Yadav. Rao eventually fell to Zaheer Khan for 91, but not before he had hit the bowler for 17 runs in a single over that included four boundaries. His contribution helped Sehwag XI score 302 for nine in their 50 overs. Chasing 303 to win, Rahul Dravid's team got off to a flying start with Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman putting on 107 runs for the first wicket. A rain delay meant that the Dravid XI were given a revised target of 237 from 39 overs. Even though the last 14 overs of the match saw four wickets fall, Yuvraj Singh and Dravid contributed a flurry of runs to ensure a victory.
