Chennai:

Dinesh Karthik, the 19 year old Tamil Nadu lad is the latest entrant into the Indian cricket team and his dual skills as a batsman and keeper have meant that he'll be invaluable on the Indian side. From the Under-19 squad to the India A team, and finally playing alongside Sourav Ganguly and the Men in BLue, Dinesh Karthik's career is growing exponentially. There is ample evidence of Dinesh Karthick possessing a safe pair of hands. But apart from his skill as a keeper, Dinesh has an aggressive batting style a€" a combination that has earned him a place in the Indian side. He is playing for India A, and we did not think that while he's playing there he will get this, this is something great," said Padmini Krishna Kumar, Dinesh Karhik's mother. Family and friends are overjoyed at this windfall but his Tamil Nadu coach is not surprised. Dinesh's batting has been consistent and his fitness levels are extremely high. In essence, I think Dinesh is a very good all-rounder. He has been extremely consistent with the bat and his keeping has also improved ten-fold in the last one year or so when he's been with the national championship," said Tamil Nadu coach B Arun. With ICC imposing the 14 member rule, Dinesh's dual skills as keeper and batsman have found him a place even in the squad going to the ICC Champions Trophy in England. Dinesh is a back-up in case Dravid receives an injury, but Dinesh will certainly not be complaining.
