New Delhi:

The BCCI may have initially opposed the idea of a 20-20 world cup but now that the team has won they have led the way in terms of showering money on the players.

The announcement from the BCCI was just the start of things to come, it's now raining gifts and money for Team India and why not.

The six members of the team who are with Air India, which includes MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh have also been given a great upgrade.

"There are six players out of the 11 of the world cup team. We will be not only honouring them but also be very happy to give them an additional promotion out of turn immediately," said Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister.

"Also give them additional travel benefits for them and their families. For the entire winning team, manager, coach, Air India is giving travel benefits," he added.

The team has already won Rs 2 crore in prize money for winning the tournament.

The BCCI has announced Rs 12 crore for the entire team, Rs 8 crore for winning the title and Rs 4 crore that they had already promised for the team reaching the final. There is also Rs 15 lakh for each of the members of the support staff of the team.

Yuvraj Singh gets a special windfall of Rs 1 crore from the board for his six pack special against England and BCCI vice president Lalit Modi has already promised the Punjab player a Porsche car.

Sahara the team sponsors have also opened the purse strings, they are giving a house worth Rs 25 lakh to each of the 15 members of the team.

Each of the state governments has also announces separate cash awards for the players, perhaps the most generous seems to be the Haryana government, which has announced Rs 21 lakh for Joginder Sharma, the last over hero against Australia and Pakistan.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda however insists on being very secretive, he says his gift for Dhoni will be a surprise, to be announced on the November 15 when the captain is felicitated with the Jharkhand Ratna award.

So the cash registers are ringing for Team India and there will surely be more to follow when new endorsements deals are signed.
