Bangladesh spinner reported for suspect action

Colombo: Bangladesh left-arm spinner Abdur Razzaq has been reported for suspected illegal bowling action and the International Cricket Council has put him on its list of bowlers who are under review. The 22-year-old bowler was reported by Roshan Mahanama, the Sri Lankan match referee for the continuing Asia Cup, after Bangladesh played Pakistan on Saturday. "The umpires were of the opinion that the player's action needed to be looked at and it is in the best interests of the player that this is done at this early stage of his career," Mahanama was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the ICC. Razzaq is in the initial stage of ICC's two-stage process to monitor bowlers, a process that has been endorsed by all Test-playing countries. Razzaq can continue playing international cricket while working on his bowling action with advisors and a human movement specialist from the ICC panel, the council said in a statement. A detailed review must be compiled by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and submitted to the ICC within six weeks. (AP)
