A sixth-wicket partnership of 94 between Shahriar Nafees and Khaled Mashud gave Bangladesh a fighting chance on Thursday in its final match of the NatWest one-day triangular series.Put in to bat by Australia, Bangladesh clocked up 250-8 in its 50 overs a€" a score that had looked almost impossible when the team was 19-3 after less than seven overs.Playing for prideWith Australia already through to the final against England on Saturday, this match was about pride a€" particularly for the Australians, who went down in a shock defeat to Bangladesh in their first match.Australia came back to win the second match easily a€" bowling out Bangladesh for 139, which has lost all three of its matches against England.Opener Javed Omar fell in the fourth over for a duck, caught by Adam Gilchrist off the bowling of Jason Gillespie. The next batsman in, Tushar Imran, lasted less than an over a€" bowled by Brett Lee on the first ball he faced.No.4 batsman Mohammad Ashraful took a six off Lee in the seventh over, but he was bowled by a yorker next ball to leave Bangladesh in trouble.Bashar fights backCaptain Habibul Bashar wasn't ready to be defeated, however. He capitalized on a series of short balls to hit five boundaries as he clocked up 30 runs off 24 balls. He was eventually dismissed when a rising ball from Shane Watson came off his glove and into the hands of Gillespie.Opener Nafees and Ahmed Aftab brought Bangladesh to 75-4, but Aftab went on the first ball after a drinks interval - knocking a ball from Michael Kasprowicz to Gillespie.Mashud then came in to partner Nafees for a 20-over spell that turned the Bangladeshi fortunes around. When Nafees finally went to Watson for 75, Bangladesh found itself with a realistic chance of seeing out the 50 overs, on 169-6.Mashud, Mahmud shineMohammad Rafique scored 15 before Watson's ball came off the edge of his bat and went to Gillespie. Mashud passed the half-century mark with Khaled Mahmud and, as the end of the innings approached, the pair went all-out a€" taking 24 off last two overs.Mahmud went to Gillespie on the final ball of the innings for 21, while Mashud finished on an unbeaten 71.The Bangladesh team all wore black armbands in tribute to their coach Dav Whatmore's father, who died on Wednesday.
