He follows up the previous shorter one by serving a juicy full delivery outside off. Vijay is lured into the drive but the ball doesn't come back in enough. It almost holds its line, takes the outside edge and goes into the gloves of Paine. He was nowhere near to the delivery, his front foot went missing. Vijay is on his way back. Best possible start for Australia after losing the toss.  15/2

87.5 OUT! Pujara is well short! Take a bow, Pat Cummins. They needed something magical to dismiss Pujara and it has come through an inspirational piece of fielding by Pat. A fuller length ball on middle, Pujara gently pushes it towards mid on and wants to retain strike for the next over. Hence he takes a chance and calls his partner through. However, Cummins attacks the ball, throws himself up in the air, has just one stump to aim at and he scores a direct hit at the non-striker's end. All that happened in one motion. Wow. It's an incredible effort from someone who has bowled 19 overs in the day under hot conditions. What an athlete! The umpire goes upstairs to check for the run out and Pujara is not even in the frame. End of an outstanding knock and he walks back to a good ovation from the crowd. That also will be Stumps on Day 1.  250/9

10.3 OUT! Stunner by Khawaja to remove India's best batsman! You need something incredible to dismiss Virat Kohli. Australia are ecstatic, they know the value of this wicket. India in deep trouble. Once again an Indian batsman is caught playing away from the body. Cummins serves this one on a good length and outside off, Kohli goes for a drive and gets a big fat outside towards gully. Now, the real action begins. Khawaja is stationed there. It's to his stronger side. So, he throws himself in the air to his left and takes a one-handed stunner. Superman stuff!  19/3

20.2 OUT! Add another one to the tally for Australia. Like his teammates, Rahane has also gone chasing a wide delivery. Hazlewood just lands it on a length and wide outside off. Gets a hint of away movement as well. Rahane could have left it easily but goes after it away from his body. Tries driving without his front foot entirely forward and gets a big outside edge behind. Peter Handscomb makes no mistake (this time) at second slip. Good bowling change by Paine. India's misery continues. Their batsmen seem to be in love with driving but they should be doing that on the roads of India, not here.  41/4

37.3 OUT! Oh dear! What was Rohit thinking? Brain fade! Really. He played a similar shot on the previous ball and just managed to get it over the ropes but this time falls right into the trap. A bit flat this time from Lyon, on middle and off, Rohit thought it was going to be fuller, but it wasn't. Still goes for the swipe across the line. Gets a top edge on it and the ball flies towards square leg. Harris runs in and takes a simple catch. India have half their side back in the hut and after offering some resistance, Rohit walks back. 49.1 OUT! A long delay but the finger is eventually raised. Lyon has been bowling great and gets another reward to his name. Flighted ball around off. The ball curls away just enough. Pant strides forward to play the trajectory but gets a feather behind due to the away spin. Paine takes the catch and appeals. The umpire stays put but then raises his finger. Pant walks. He was playing all types of aggressive shots but eventually gets out while defending. India in big trouble now.  127/6

74 OUT! The 62-run stand has been broken by a jaffa of a delivery. Cummins roars in delight. He dishes in a length delivery on middle and gets it to straighten off the seam after landing. Ashwin's intention is to play on the leg side but he doesn't close the face of the bat in time. It takes the outside half of his blade and flies straight into the hands of Handscomb at second slip. End of a hard-fought knock by Ravichandran Ashwin. India now need their tail to wag. Still 11 short of the 200-run mark.  189/7

82.4 OUT! Bowled 'em! It was only a matter of time. Starc was trying to do this on the previous ball as well but the line wasn't good. But this time, he is right on the money. Full and sharp and straight, Ishant is beaten for pace as he is late in bringing his bat down. It goes right through his defense, brushes his pads and then cannons onto the stumps. Starc gets his second wicket and gives a stare to Sharma. Ishant doesn't respond and heads back. He will have his turn with the ball. Wait for that contest!  210/8

88 OUT! Strangled down the leg side! Hazlewood bowls a gentle loosener, it's short and going down the leg side. Shami tries to play the pull shot but ends up gloving it behind. Paine dives full length to his left and takes a fine catch. They appeal and the finger has gone up. India are all out for 250!  250/10

0.3 OUT! Stumps are destroyed! What a cracking beginning for India! Excellent delivery by Ishant and it's aided by some poor choice of shot by Aaron. The tall Indian bowler serves it on a length and once again gets it to shape back in a bit. Finch tries to drive it through the line, his footwork ain't good enough and it catches some inside edge of his willow before going to clatter the stumps. The Indian skipper as usual is all pumped up. A perfect start for India. Stumps flying and as a fast bowler you just love that sight.  0/1

21.1 OUT! Harris falls! Ashwin breaks the 45-run stand. The debutant departs after impressing in his little knock. It's a beautifully tossed up delivery by Ashwin. He gets it to drift into the batsman and lands full around off. Harris presses forward to defend but gets an inside edge onto the pads. The ball pops out off his pads and Vijay takes the simplest of catches at silly point. Finally a breakthrough for India and they are looking relieved in their celebration. 39.3 OUT! Khawaja has gloved it! Huge breakthrough for India as they get rid of the set batsman. Ashwin hunts down his third victim. Once again gets a good drift on his delivery and hurls it around off. Khawaja commits himself on the front foot as he leans forward to defend. But the ball spins away a bit to beat the outside edge of his bat. Although there is some sound as it goes past him and Pant after takes a fine catch lets out an appeal. Umpire Dharmasena shakes his head and Virat Kohli takes the DRS. The replays roll in and first it shows that Ashwin has not overstepped. Now, Hot Spot is employed which detects a tiny spot on Khawaja's gloves. That's enough for the third umpire to overrule the onfield decision. Usman has to walk back after playing a 125-ball knock. Deficit for Australia is 13 more than 150. In trouble. The devil's number strikes for the hosts.  87/4

28 OUT! Drags it on! Not for the first time in this Test match that a batsman has got out while attempting to drive away from his body. Excellent start to the session for India. They have managed to dismiss a big batsman from the opposition camp. A pretty much nothing delivery by Ashwin. He just puts it out on a driving length outside off and plays on the patience of the batsman. Marsh's front foot just goes straight through as he tries to drill it through covers. But it takes a massive inside edge and disturbs the stumps behind. Shaun's ordinary form against India at home continues. Australia trail by 191 runs and are in some trouble.  59/3

57.3 OUT! Bumrah strikes this time! Handscomb is out of here. He tried hard in the middle but never looked convincing at the crease. A shortish length delivery has been delivered outside off, Handscomb leans back inside the crease with the intention to run it down to third man. But he fails to middle his shot and edges it into the mitts of Pant. The 33-run stand is broken and the Indian players are ecstatic. The deficit currently is 130.  120/5

98.3 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Shami gets the well-set Travis Head. He does not surpass his highest score. But a very important knock by him comes to an end. Shami bowls it outside off and it is on a length. Head maybe should have left the delivery but he ends up chasing it away from his body. The ball takes the outside edge and goes into the hands of Pant who accepts it. The bowling change has worked and the Indians will be relieved to break this stand. Australia are still 15 runs behind and have only a wicket in hand.  235/9

63 OUT! Edged and gone! Beautiful delivery by Ishant. He was probing around the off stump line and eventually gets the better of the Aussie skipper. Just lands it on a length around off, Paine has to play the line as he tries to defend. But to his bad luck, the ball nips away ever so slightly to gather a faint outside edge. Pant makes no mistake and India are into the Australian tail now. 50th Test wicket for Ishant against Australia, only the second team against whom he has achieved this feat.  127/6

80.3 OUT! LBW it is and Australia lose Cummins and a review. A lovely delivery from Bumrah with the new nut. Similar to how Jos Buttler had been dismissed in the England series recently. A length ball outside off, Cummins shoulders arms, thinking that it is wide enough to be left alone. But the ball darts back in off the seam and hits him on the back thigh. Bumrah appeals and umpire Nigel Llong raises his finger! Cummins has a chat with Head and then signals for the review. No point in checking for the impact as no shot was offered. Ball Tracking shows the ball to be hitting the stumps. Very good delivery to break a very good stand. Australia still trail by 73 but they are looking a lot better than what they were, an hour ago. The Australian number 9 tries to go big, swings his bat hard but only manages a thick outside edge behind to Pant. The Indians are celebrating. Early success for them. Starc must be disappointed, he has the ability to bat and just needed to partner Head there. The deficit is 46 runs and any lead for the tourists on this surface will be handy.  204/8

18.2 OUT! Starc strikes! Australia draw first blood. A much-needed wicket as this partnership was really starting to flourish. A similar way to how Vijay got out to Starc in the first innings. It is full and outside off, the sucker ball. Vijay is sucked into the drive, he plays it away from his body. The ball takes the outside edge and goes towards second slip where Handscomb takes a nice catch by diving to his left. India are effectively 78 for 1.  63/1

88 OUT! First success for Australia this morning! Lyon gets a breakthrough finally. He has been the most impressive bowler for the Aussies and is rewarded for his perseverance. A tossed up delivery landing outside off, Pujara strides forward to wear it on his pads but it bounces extra, raps him on the front thigh pad and then takes some part of his gloves before lobbing to Finch at short leg. They appeal and the finger goes up. The 87-run stand is broken, devil's number benefiting Australia for a change. Pujara walks back with his head high. Tremendous effort by India's number three, 194 runs in total from his blade in this Test. For the stats, this is the 8th time Lyon has dismissed Pujara in Test cricket, the most Che has got out to a bowler.  234/4

57.1 OUT! Lyon at last gets the breakthrough. Finally, a ball takes an inside edge and goes to hand. The celebration tells you how relieved they are. Another Indian batsman can't make most of the start. This is tossed up outside off, it turns back in sharply as Kohli stretches forward in defense. But it takes the inside edge, hits the pad and lobs to short leg. Finch there grabs an easy catch. The stand which was taking the game away from the Aussies has been broken. This is the 6th time Lyon has got Kohli out in Tests, no bowler has dismissed him more. Can Australia take a couple more and end the day on a high?  147/3

Flighted delivery, landing full around off, Rahane goes down on on knee and tries to reverse sweep against the spin. He fails to control his shot and hits it in the air. Mitchell Starc moves across to his left from point and takes the catch safely. India lead by 318 and have two wickets left.  303/8

91.2 OUT! Terrific catch by Peter Handscomb at silly point! Lyon strikes again and is all smiles. All the hard work is paying off now for the Aussie off spinner. Flighted delivery around off, turning back in slightly this time with extra bounce. Sharma is drawn forward in defense but fails to get his bat on it. It then pops out towards silly point where Peter reacts quickly and dives across to his right to take a one-handed catch inches above the surface. A bit similar to Pujara's wicket. The ball brushing the pads first and then taking the gloves. India lead by 263 runs.  248/5

97.1 OUT! Live by the sword, die by the sword. Pant is out of here. Lyon tosses it up generously outside off and gets it to spin away. Pant tries to dismiss it over covers with an inside-out shot but ends up handing a simple catch to Finch at sweeper cover. The cameo is over. Lyon has the last laugh. He gets his revenge in the form of his fourth wicket. India's lead is three short of 300.  282/6

102.2 OUT! Ashwin holes out! Finally they pick a wicket off the short ball. Ashwin tries to pull it away for a maximum but doesn't connect well and finds Marcus Harris in the deep backward square leg region. Starc hasn't looked good but gets his second wicket.  303/7

106.5 OUT! Ishant is bounced out! Starc bangs in a lethal short delivery on middle, Sharma stands back and tries to fend at it. He takes his eyes off the ball too and ends up lobbing it in the air off the splice of his bat. A simple catch for Finch at short leg. India are all out for 307!  307/10

103.2 OUT! Two in two for Lyon, he's on a hat-trick now. A tossed up delivery, landing around off and turns back in. Shami shimmies down the track and tries to heave it in the stand at mid-wicket. But on the point of contact, the ball turns in and takes the inner half of the bat. It goes aerially to deep mid-wicket where Harris takes another skier easily.  303/9

12 OUT! Ashwin draws first blood. A lovely delivery, drifting into the batsman outside off and breaking back in after hitting the deck. Finch gets forward to defend it with his bat and pad together. The ball spins back in, goes closely past his gloves and lobs in the air. Pant runs forward to catch and they appeal. The finger goes up and Kohli is pumped up. Finch walks up to his partner but decides not to take the DRS. The replays, later on, fail to detect anything. It seems that Aaron missed a trick there. Anyway, that's part and parcel of the game. A real tempter by Shami, bowls it on a length outside off and Marcus remains inside the crease in his attempt to cut it through the line. The length is not quite there and it takes a thick outside edge on its way to Pant's gloves, his 8th catch in the match. Australia in trouble.  44/2

23.3 OUT! Talk about throwing your wicket away! Poor, very poor by Khawaja. He is the experienced batsman and that's a needless shot. Superb delivery by Ashwin. Bowls it slow and lands it in the line of the stumps. Usman is down the track for a big shot but fails to reach the pitch of the ball. Still goes on with his shot but it turns away just a bit to take the outer half of the bat. Rohit runs in from sweeper cover, seems to have misjudged the skier a bit but then completes the catch by diving forward. Ashwin runs in delight.
