Cape Town:

Chasing a mere 102, Australia beat Sri Lanka in the tenth over by 10 wickets in their Super Eights encounter at Cape Town on Thursday.

Stuart Clark, the main wicket taker, with figures of 4-0-20-4 was the Man of the Match and played a vital role in restricting Sri Lanka.

Openers Adam Gilchrist(31) and Matthew Hayden(58) put up an unbeaten partnership of 102 in the 10th over and have sent Sri Lanka on the way back home.

Australia now enters the semi-finals alongwith Pakistan.

SL falter

Earlier Sri Lanka was stunned at 101 all out in the last over of their innings after Australian skipper Adam Gilchrist won the toss and asked them to bat.

Sri Lanka was in deep waters early on, as both openers were taken out fairly quickly starting with Sanath Jayasuriya who was caught leg before by Brett Lee on the third ball of the innings for a duck.

Upul Tharanga was the next to return after scoring a mere four runs, as he was caught by Lee off Nathan Bracken in the second over of the innings.

Lee's next over was again fruitful as skipper Mahela Jayawardene was caught by Stuart Clark after, he added a mere one run to a very stagnant total.

Chamara Silva(6) was then sent back by Stuart Clark as Lee took his second catch of the day to compound Sri Lanka's woes.

Clark added another wicket to his tally, that of Tillakaratne Dilshan (3), as he was caught behind by Adam Gilchrist to put the Lankans into a dire situation.

Clark was on fire in the tenth over when he took the wickets of Kumar Sangakkara (22) and Farveez Maharoof (0). Both of them were caught by Michael Clarke.

Jehan Mubarak attempted to take Sri Lanka to a fighting total, but was caught out by Andrew Symonds off Shane Watson for 28.

Chaminda Vaas, who scored 21, was the next to fall, caught by Symonds off Lee at deep midwicket.

Dilhara Fernando's wicket finally bought the innings to a close when he was caught and bowled by Bracken for naught.

The Australian side had just one change with Shane Watson replacing the injured Ricky Ponting, while Sri Lanka named an unchanged side.
