Australia scored 242 at the loss of 3 wickets on the first day of the Test against Sri Lanka in Australia.

The match is already amidst a lot of controversy with leading news agencies boycotting the coverage of the series.

According to cricinfo website, run by the International Cricket Council, skipper Ricky Ponting scored a useful 56 while Muralitharan picked 2 for 67 in the first innings of hosts Australia.

Michael Hussey was batting on 28 and Michael Clarke was on 5 at the close of the day's play at the Gabba.
