The Indian Premier League might have ended but the Twenty20 fever is not over yet, at least not in Amethi, which held the finals of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Cricket tournament on Monday. A Twenty20 tournament, which was the brainchild of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, began on April 15.

More than 1800 rural teams took part in the event. The final match between Tiloi and Sangrampur gram panchayats was attended by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi with husband Robert Vadra, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and RP Singh.

Rahul said, "This was basically my idea to give the opportunity for the local boys to perform."

Sangrampur were the winners and they received a cheque of 3 lakh rupees.

It was one of its kind event, in which 1,857 teams, comprising of 30,000 players took part and played 1819 matches under the supervision of 212 umpires.

This tournament surely was bigger than the cash-rich IPL.
