Former National Under-17 champion P Saravana Krishnan was in the limelight as he reigned over his second successive Grandmaster opponent at the ongoing Gurgaon International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament on Friday.

Sarvana got the better of Kazakh GM Nurlan Ibrayev after in the fourth round after he had overcome the challenge from highly rated Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia in his previous match at Suncity World School.

On the top boards, top seed Ukrainian GM Alexander Areshchenko defeated Debashish Das while second seed Yuriy Kuzubov also from Ukraine had it easy against Turkmenistan Fide Master Esenov Annaberdi in the third round.

Talented Indian youngster Swapnil Dhopade held third seed Grandmaster Yuri Solodovnichenko of Ukraine while B S Shivananda held former National Champion and GM Abhijit Kunte.

After a great outing in the just concluded 7th Parsvnath Chess Tournament at New Delhi where he finished runner-up, Russian Grandmaster Mikhail Ulibin found Indian youngster R Premnath a tough nut to crack and signed the peace treaty in just 17 moves.

The other Indian GM in the fray Neelotpal Das and Magesh Chandran also satisfied with half point against P Maheswaran and Soumyaranjan Mishra respectively in the third round.

The fourth round was under progress at time of latest report.
