Lanka Ravi joins Saha in lead

IM Lanka Ravi of PSPB joined Suvrajit Saha of West Bengal in the lead in the seventh round of the 44th National 'B' chess championship.

International Master Lanka Ravi of PSPB joined Suvrajit Saha of West Bengal in lead after scoring a hard earned victory over P Shyam Nikhil of Tamil Nadu in the seventh round of the 44th National 'B' chess championship. Suvrajit Saha, who had stormed ahead with six victories on the trot decided to take things easy in the seventh round game and settled for a quick draw with Vikramaditya Kamble of Maharashtra on Tuesday. Saha and Ravi have 6.5 points each in their kitty now and they are followed by Kamble who has 6 points to his credit. With six rounds still to go in this selection tournament for the next National 'A' chess championship, as many as 21 players share the fourth spot with 5.5 points apiece. Prominent among them are top seed K Ratnakaran of Kerala, PSPB's duo of former National champion IM P Konguvel and former 'B' champion IM V Koshy, Haryana's lone IM Himanshu Sharma, IM Roktim Bandyopadhyay of West Bengal and Women Grandmaster Eesha Karavade of Maharashtra. Top 30 players from this event will qualify to the National 'A' to be held later this year in Rajkot with a changed format that will see the premier event take shape in a Swiss format instead of the round-robin (all-play-all) system.
