Hastings, England:

Grandmaster Pentyala Harikrishna scored a brilliant victory over Grandmaster Alexei Barsov of Uzbekistan to emerge as joint leader after the seventh round of the Premier tournament of 65th Hastings International Chess tournament.Harikrishna (4.5 points) shares the lead with GM Keith Arkell of England and GM Peter Heine Nielsen of Denmark. In joint fourth place are GM Krishnan Sasikiran, who drew with English GM Glenn Flear, and Barsov with 4 points apiece, while GM Luke McShane of England and GM Sergey Karjakin follow them on 3.5 points each. With just two more rounds to go, Harikrishna looks set to retain his first place in the tournament he won jointly last year along with Barsov and Sasikiran. But the 16-year old Indian might find it difficult to get to the score of 6.5 points which he achieved quite comfortably in the previous edition. (PTI)
