Doha Asian Games bronze medallist Vijender Singh and Anthresh Lalit Lakra kept the Indian flag flying on the second day of the World Boxing Championships in Chicago.

Lakra, who failed to finish among the medals at last week's Military World Games in Hyderabad, defeated South Korean Ju Min Jae 19-14 in the featherweight (57kg) category in his opening bout at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion on Wednesday.

Lakra next faces Tajikistan's Bahodir Karimov, who ousted Orlando Rizo Perez of Nicaragua 28-17.

Vijender, the only boxer to be conferred with the Arjuna Award this year, defeated Romania's Ronald Gavril 25-14 in the middleweight (75kg) category.

In the second round bout, Vijender takes on Venezuela's Alfonso Blanco, who defeated Englishman James Degale 28-13 in his opening bout.

The quarter-finalists in each of the 11 weight categories book places in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
