New York:
World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and promoter Don King announced plans to hold a heavyweight boxing elimination series at a news conference in New York on Thursday. Lewis has been in virtual retirement since his knockout over Mike Tyson in June this year. But there is speculation that he will take on the winner of this event. And while Lewis will not appear in any of the fights announced, he will provide TV commentary on the broadcasts. "Well I'm definitely going to be scouting out there, you know. I get first hand view of the boxers, and see their weakness and strengths," said Lewis. According to King and Lewis, the two fight series was arranged after Lewis accepted a million dollar offer from King to give up his IBF belt rather then face the number one contender Chris Byrd.
