India's Akhil Kumar was knocked out by Moldova's Veaclesav Gojan in the bantamweight quarterfinal event in Beijing.

New Delhi:

Boxer Akhil Kumar failed to realise the country's hopes as he was knocked out by Moldova's Veaclesav Gojan in the bantamweight quarterfinal event in Beijing on Monday.

It was a one-sided show as Gojan drubbed Akhil convincingly 10-3.

Round 1:1-1

Both the boxers started of well in the first round and were tied 1-1.

Round 2:1-1

The second round was not much different and the two pugilists gained one point each to take their total to 2-2.

Round 3:4-0

Moldovan boxer began his onslaught in the third round and did not allow Akhil a single punch on target. All fingers crossed for a miracle but it was too late for even the prayers. Gojan got four punches on the right spot and took a lead of 6-2.

Round 4:4-1

In the last round, Akhil managed to hit one but then Gojan was all over him and sealed his victory with a score of 10-3.
