Saina knocked out in quarters

Saina Nehwal's challenge in the women's badminton singles event ended late on Wednesday.

Saina Nehwal's challenge in the women's badminton singles event ended late on Wednesday as she was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Japan's Hirose Eriko 23-7, 25-21. The 16-year-old Hyderabad girl, who reached the final of the World Junior Championships recently was totally outplayed by her opponent who was seeded fifth in the tournament in the first game. Saina put up a much better show in the second game but her effort was just not good enough.
