Birmingham:

Denmark's Peter Gade has recaptured his top form and is now only one win away from proving he is back to being a world beater. The popular Dane repeated his 1999 Birmingham win over Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia to become the only European through to a singles final at the Yonex All-England Championships at the National Indoor Arena. On Saturday, in the semi-finals, the former world number one beat Hidayat 15-9 15-9. Barring his path to the trophy at these 94th All England championships is world number one, the Chinese top seed Lin Dan. He beat Singapore's Ronald Susilo 15-6, 15-10 as he looks to add the All England to the Swiss Open title he won in Basle last weekend. Saturday also saw both men's doubles semi-finals. First through were Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah of Malaysia. The eighth seeds cruised past the third seeded Chinese pair of Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng. The Malaysians forged ahead into an 11-2 lead. The Chinese duo battled back to 15-15 before Choong and Lee secured the game 17-15. They sealed the match and a finals berth with a 15-10 win in the second. In another strong Danish showing, the fourth-seeded doubles pair Jens Erisken and Martin Lundgaard Hansen battled into the finals, outplaying Indonesians Eng Hian and Flandi Limpele of Indonesia 9-15, 15-1, 15-6 in 75 minutes. But hopes of a third Danish final appearance were dashed when Eriksen and Mette Schjoldager lost in the mixed doubles semifinals. Chinese domination of the women's singles was confirmed from the moment top seed Gong Ruina beat former Indonesian Mia Audina Tjiptawan of the Netherlands 11-7, 11-3. In the final on Sunday the world runner-up faces holder Zhou Mi, who put out world champion Zhang Ning 11-4, 10-13, 11-4 to make it 11-1 in head to heads between them. In the mixed doubles semi-final between Kim Dong-moon and Ra Kyung-min of South Korea and Indonesia's Nova Widianto and Vita Marissa, the Koreans proved too good and cruised into the final 15-9, 15-9.
