New Delhi:

National champion Chetan Anand suffered a humiliating straight-game defeat at the hands of Chinese Jin Chen in the first round, bringing the curtains down on the Indian challenge at the French Super Series badminton tournament in Paris.

Unseeded Chetan failed to put up a fight against third seed Chen and went down 17-21 14-21 in just 34 minutes.

Chetan's defeat brought the Indian challenge to a crushing end on the first day itself as all the other Indians had fallen by the wayside in the opening round yesterday.

Arvind Bhatt and P Kashyap in the men's singles and Aditi Mutatkar in the women's singles could not get past the first hurdle. There are no Indians in the men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles main round. Up against top seed Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia, Arvind

lasted just 26 minutes before going down 14-21 3-21, while Kashyap was shown the door by Chinese Yi Lu 8-21 16-21 in 34 minutes.

In women's singles, Aditi also met with the same fate, squandering a game lead to crash out in the first round. She lost 21-17 11-21 9-21 to third seed Mi Zhou of Hong Kong.
