Australia retained the Ashes urn in England for the first time in 18 years after the five-Test series ended in a 2-2 draw. Players from both teams gave their all but there were players like Steve Smith and Ben Stokes who carried their respective sides on multiple occasions throughout the series. Smith amassed 774 runs in just seven innings at an astounding average of 110.57 while Ben Stokes finished the series with 441 runs. He also picked up eight wickets in the series. Smith and Stokes both won the 'Player of the Series' award for their respective sides. Pat Cummins was the leading wicket-taker in the series with 29 wickets. He was followed by Stuart Broad who picked up 23 wickets. Jofra Archer, playing his first-ever Test series, picked up 22 wickets in just four matches. Both England and Australia earned 56 World Test Championship points each.
