World Athletics Final: Anju wins silver

Anju Bobby George won the silver in women's long jump at the World Athletics Final in Monaco today.

Anju Bobby George won the silver in women's long jump at the World Athletics Final in Monaco today. Anju's leap of 6.75 metre was her season's best. While Russia's Tatyana Kotova claimed gold with jump of 6.83 mt, Grace Upshaw of US took the Bronze medal with a leap of 6.67 mt. Remarkable comeback Anju made a remarkable comeback after two foul jumps in her first two attempts with the silver wining jump in her third. This performance comes less than a week of Anju's gold winning effort of 6.65 metre at the 16th Asian Athletic Championship in Incheon, South Korea. Her world ranking rose to seventh as a result making her eligible for the World Athletics Final. The lanky south Indian long jumper surpassed her best effort of the season (6.66 metre) at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki last month. (With PTI inputs)
