Saha bows out of women's 200m

Athens:

Sprinter Saraswati Saha crashed out of the women's 200 metres in the Olympic Games today. The 25-year-old Kolkata-based athlete ended up a poor fifth with a sub-par time of 23.43 seconds to make her exit in the first round of the event at the Olympic Stadium. The time clocked by the 25-year-old Kolkata-based sprinter in heat three was far below her season's best of 23.07 done at home to attain the qualifying mark for the Games. Had she equalled what she did at home, it could have fetched her an automatic qualification berth for the next round. Britain's Joice Maduaka, who came fourth in the same heat, clocked 23.15 seconds which was below Saha's season's best. The top four finishers from each of the seven heats automatically qualified for the second round along with four best losers from all the heats. Heat three was won by Cydonie Mothersill of Cayman Islands in 22.40 while Beverly McDonald of Jamaica came second in 22.90. (PTI)
