Marion Jones wins 100 metres at Goodwill Games

The breaking of her four-year-old winning streak has not kept Marion Jones down. She won the 100 metres at Brisbane's Goodwill Games in a new games record time. Zhanna Pintusevych-Block who ended Jones' four-year unbeaten streak at last month's World Championships was also in the line-up but Jones pulled away from the field easily enough to win with a new Goodwill Games record time of 10.84. Block stayed 17th hundredths of a second behind in second place. Day seven at the games was one of total triumph for Brazil in beach volleyball. While the women's gold was a foregone conclusion for Brazil; both teams in the final being from that country in the men's final too. The team of Jose Loiola and Richardo Santos beat tough rivals Argentina 21-14 and 23-21. In Basketball, the US team powered past their Argentinean Group A counterparts, 97 against 67 and hosts Australia too mended their ways thrashing Canada 111 to 64 after losing to Brazil in their opening game.
