Mahato invited to run New York Marathon

Kolkata:

A self-trained athlete from Kharagpur is headed for the Big Apple to participate in the New York Marathon on November 6. Thirty-three-year-old Bimal Mahato will be among 40,000 people running the New York Marathon. He was invited to participate after he clocked a record 2 hour 23 minute run for a 42.2 km Kolkata Marathon in March. "I am not tense. I am only thinking about how to do my best in New York, how to run well," said Mahato. Bimal is a self-trained runner who almost hung up his boots because his father passed away the day he won the Kolkata race. But his feat had sponsors beating a path to his door. For the man who takes one mile at a time, November 6 will be D-Day and the New York Marathon a milestone he had only dreamt about.
