World No. 7 Anju Bobby George of India finished fourth at the IAAF Japan Grand Prix with a below par performance in Osaka today. The 27-year-old Indian, who went into the meet as one of the favourites alongside World No. 6 Grace Upshaw of the USA, managed only a 6.46m. Japan's Kumiko Ikeda emerged as the surprise winner claiming the gold with a leap of 6.65m. Upshaw won the silver with a jump of 6.58m, while another home challenge Maho Hanaoka clinched the bronze clearing 6.57m. Asian Games gold medallist Anju, who last year became the first Indian to win a medal at a World Athletic Championships in Paris, had cleared 6.66m to win the first National Athletic Circuit Meet in April this year Her personal best of 6.74m is also a national record in women's long jump.
