India finished seventh in the women's 4x400m relay final at the Olympic Games tonight. The Indian quartet comprising S Geetha, K M Beenamol, Chitra K Soman and Rajwinder Kaur clocked 3 minutes, 28.51 seconds. On Friday, India had clocked a new national record time of 3 minutes 26.89 seconds to advance to the final finishing third in the semifinal heat. The gold medal went to the USA, silver went to Russia, while Jamaica clinched the bronze. Indian campaign ends India's campaign in the Olympics has now come to an end. Though India won only one medal, a silver by Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in shooting, the overall performance has been encouraging in some areas such as tennis, shooting, archery and athletics. But the Games will also be remembered for the doping scandal that hit the country's women weightlifting contingent. The biggest disappointment, though, was the men's hockey team, which finished 7th out of eight teams. What was more shocking was the infighting within the team, which analysts say had a direct impact on how the team fared. (With PTI inputs)
