Monday was a day that mostly belonged to the rain gods but when they did take a break, the mortals on earth got a taste of some thrilling Tennis action. A look (AFP images)
Play had to be halted several times through the day as showers hit London with repeated intensity.
Wet conditions however, could not stop Serena Williams as she registered a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Yaroslava Shvedova.
It was heart-break however for Kim Clijsters who bade farewell to Wimbledon for the final time, losing 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth round to German eighth seed Angelique Kerber.
Kerber, who now has a tour-leading 44 wins this year, goes on to face fellow German Sabine Lisicki who created a massive upset in an adjoining court.
Lisicki avenged her last year's semi-final defeat by beating Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-3.
All was not too well for Roger Federer either but the result here was not unexpected. Federer shrugged off a rare medical time-out to defeat Xavier Malisse 7-6 (7/1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Victoria Azarenka showed no mercy to Ana Ivanovic as she, towards the end of the day, blasted a 6-1, 6-0 game to move ahead.
