It was fine weather for most parts of the day here, after a spell of rain on the opening day. The sun was out and the English summer was in all it's glory on Tuesday.
Serena Williams was one of the first of the stars to walk out for her match against Aravane Rezai of France.
The American was made to sweat it out a bit in her 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win but the tears at the end of the match were of relief after an injury-ridden recent past.
Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki though was in full form as she took on Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain. The Danish player won the match 6-2, 6-1.
It was a bad day for the Indian contingent here as Sania Mirza surrendered to Virginie Razzano of France, 6-7 6-2 3-6.
In the men's draw, Roger Federer eased past newcomer Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in straight sets.
There was a lot of buzz in the spectators arena when cricketers Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and former player Michael Atherton registered their presence here.
Serbia's Novak Djokovic though, took the limelight back and put it on himself as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Jeremy Chardy of France.
Maria Sharapova too had an easy opening match against her fellow Russian player. She defeated Anna Chakvetadze 6-2, 6-1.
