Wimbledon 2013 has been extremely unkind to most champions of tennis participating in tournament.
Injuries and spirited fights from youngsters has taken much of the sheen away from the veterans. Here is taking a look at some of the biggest names who were forced to book an early flight out of London.
Former World Number 1 Rafael Nadal was the first big-name to exit Wimbledon 2013.
Coming back from an injury, Nadal showed potential with a win in the French Open.
Grass and Steve Darcis though were unkind.
Ranked 135, Belgian Darcis registered an impressive 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 win in the 1st round.
It's another matter though that Darcis himself eventually fell prey to injury and exited the tournament!
Nadal's rival Roger Federer too did not fare much better.
Federer lost his second round match 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 6-7 to Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine.
A struggling Maria Sharapova too was ousted in the second round when her Portuguese opponent Michelle Larcher de Brito registered a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Sharapova was struggling through the course of the match and even called for a medical timeout. She kept playing though in what turned out to be a losing cause.
World Number 2 Victoria Azarenka fell during her first round win and the pain returned to haunt her ahead of her second round match against Flavia Pennett.
The Belarusian player later blamed the grass courts for her injury.
World Number 1 Serena Williams said she was scared of following other stars on the injury list.
While she was not injured, Germany's Sabine Lisicki ensured that Serena's other nightmare came true.
The American was ousted in the 4th round (6-2, 1-6, 6-4)
