US Open Day 12: Serena sets up final with Azarenka
World number one Serena Williams will take on Victoria Azarenka in the women's singles final on Sunday. However, Serena and her sister Venus lost in the women's doubles semi-finals on Friday.
World number two Victoria Azarenka brushed aside Italian veteran Flavia Pennetta 6-4 6-2 to reach her second successive US Open final. The Australian Open champion committed six double faults and 25 unforced errors.
World number one and defending champion Serena Williams crushed China's Li Na 6-0, 6-3. "I just try hard and when I hear young and old voices in the crowd shouting 'Go Serena, Go Serena' it makes me feel so special," said Serena.
The 2011 French Open champion Li Na, who was playing in her first US Open semi-final, looked a bit nervous. "I was feeling I need more practice. It's not about the technique. I should not be nervous because it's not first time I play semis," said Li.
Serena and her sister Venus fell 6-4, 6-2 to the Czech team of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the women's doubles semi-finals - a match played shortly after Serena won in singles to set up a final against Victoria Azarenka.
Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, who are eyeing their second Grand Slam title, will play Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua in the final on Saturday.
Before her women's doubles semi-finals, Andrea Hlavackova teamed up with Max Mirnyi to win mixed doubles crown. They beat Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez 7-6 6-3 in the final.
