England retained the Ashes after most of the 5th days of the 3rd Test was washed out, leading the match to be declared a draw.
Set a target of 332, England got off to the worst possible start losing skipper Alastair Cook for nought. Cook was trapped lbw by the excellent Ryan Harris and wasted a review as well.
Harris was sensational with the ball, getting rid of Jonathan Trott as well. Australia will hope that the injury-prone Harris will recover in time for the next Test in Durham in 3 days time.
Peter Siddle gave Australia real hope removing Kevin Pietersen as England were reeling. KP was furious with the decision and was visibly distraught at being given out caught behind.
It was just as the players headed for lunch, the rain arrived and continued - expect for a brief period after lunch - for the entire day.
Australian players were understandably upset that a chance at victory was taken away from them due to mother nature. Skipper Michael Clarke though promised to bounce back in the next Test.
The English balcony celebrated retaining the urn by waving to the capacity crowd at Old Trafford that has stayed back despite the rain.
